Overview This extremely pleasant hike through the Eastern Superstitions begins at the
\nReavis Ranch trailhead and takes the northern section of the Reavis Ranch Trail (109)
\nsouthbound to the old abandoned Reavis Ranch homestead.
\nFrom the trailhead you are afforded an excellent
\noverview of Apache Lake. The Reavis Ranch Trail
\nascends at moderate grade through grassing rolling
\nhills toward Castle Dome. The trail is mostly
\nsmooth but an occasional rocky section keeps you
\non your toes. The trail passes on the
\neast side of Castle Dome, through Windy Pass,
\nbefore descending to the junction with Plow Saddle
\nTrail (see below for details on a side hike to Plow
\nSaddle Springs). The trail continues on to the east
\npassing Frog Tanks trail junction before descending
\ninto a wooded area where it follows an old fence
\nline. There are a couple of breaks in the fence with
\ntrails which presumably go to the creek. Continuing
\nalong the fence, you will pass an apple orchard
\nbefore arriving at Reavis Ranch. The ranch house
\nburned down in 1991 but the foundation still
\nremains.<\/p>\n
Directions From Phoenix take US 60 east. Exit at Apache Junction and drive northeast on
\nState Highway 88. Follow 88 to the end of the pavement (about 25 miles) then a few miles
\nfurther until the road begins a steep descent into the canyon. Once in the bottom continue
\ndriving until you see the sign for Reavis Ranch on the right hand side. Turn right and follow
\nthis somewhat steep, but smooth and well graded road to the trailhead at the end.<\/p>\n
