Where: Aqua Fria National Monument. Backpack along the Aqua Fria River from Bloody
Basin Road
When: January 21 – 22, 2017. Depart Saturday at 7:30 AM from Madison #1 parking lot.
Plan on returning late Sunday afternoon.
Info: A 5 to 6 mile overnight hike in the Aqua Fria National Monument. We will backpack
along the river to the mouth of Baby Canyon where we will set up camp. Day hike up
Baby Canyon along Bishop Creek to explore several Hohokam ruins. Hike up to Perry
Mesa and walk along the ridge before dropping back down to our Aqua Fria campsite.
Expect a relatively easy to moderate hike. Be prepared to get your feet wet.
Gear:
‐ Backpack
‐ Tent with rain fly
‐ Sleeping pad & sleeping bag (35 degree)
‐ First Aid Kit
‐ Water Bottles or Camelback (2 liters)
‐ Water Filter or purification tablets (share/patrol)
‐ Flashlight/head lamp
‐ Mess Kit
‐ Toilet Kit
‐ Hiking Clothes / Change of Clothes
‐ Hiking Shoes/Boots & Shoes for water crossings
‐ Backpack Stove & fuel (share/patrol)
‐ Cooking pans/pots (share/patrol)
Meals: Saturday Breakfast – Eat before leaving or on the way
